Fifteen years after the Sweet Lullaby's debut it remains popular in it's many reincarnations. In 2007 Canadian based Existence Records is paying tribute to this now classic ethno-electronic hit with sixteen new remixes from over a dozen Djs around the world. The Existence remixes are available online as of February 26th, and can initially be purchased at Beatport, and other online stores [1],[2],[3],[4] (more to follow). There are also plans for release of a limited edition CD later this year.

Despite that these 16 remixes are of the same song, each Dj infuses their own distinct sound, resulting in some of the best Sweet Lullaby remixes to date. Listeners wanting something electronically colorful and sweet-sounding should check out the remixes by Rai, Belfi, Kwitek, Leron (Chill Mix) and both remixes from Xara. Those in the mood for something more trancey with harder beats will want to try the Elektroheadz, Monodrive, B as Deep and Deep Horizons remixes.

Each remix can be purchased individually online, so listen to the samples below or on Beatport and purchase only those remixes that you like.

Brief History of Sweet Lullaby:
At the core of Sweet Lullaby is the voice and melody of Afunakwa from the Solomon Islands. Her singing was recorded in 1969 by ethnomusicologist Hugo Zemp in an effort to archive the traditions of a fading culture.

Michel Sanchez's deep interest in electronic and traditional ethnic music gave him the idea to combine the two. It was in 1990 that Michel asked Eric Mouquet to listen to an early mix of Sweet Lullaby. Eric was impressed by what he had heard, and when Michel asked Eric to work on this project with him Deep Forest was born. Afunakwa's vocals were sampled and edited, combined with other ethnic samples and layered with light electronic music for ambience. The song that drove Deep Forest's creation has been one of their greatest successes, and is still being discovered by new listeners every day.

Recent Previous Sweet Lullaby Mixes:

2006
ExOne (Danny De Shore & Ingo Vogelmann)
This set of remixes are based on a voiceless cover version of Sweet Lullaby (Original Mix). The Danny De Shore mix uses the Sweet Lullaby melody with some very hard-thumping bass. There are three remixes by Vogelmann, but you can save yourself some money by just buying one, because they are all practically identical. The Vogelmann has some cool tribal drumming layered over a simplified version of the Sweet Lullaby melody, but the song gets a bit repetitive after awhile, especially the 12 minute version. The remixes are only available as online downloads.

Where the Hell is Matt (Remix by Gary Schyman)

Matt Harding is an internet celebrity who became famous when he created video of his uncoordinated dancing in different countries around the world, with Sweet Lullaby (Nature's Dancing 7" Mix) as background music.

The viral web video became a huge success, and Matt milked that success to pay for more traveling. In June 2006, he made a second video with more world scenes and dancing. Gary Schyman was recruited by Matt to remix Sweet Lullaby. The remix has a lot of guitar playing. The first half of the song isn't all that great, but the guitar really mixes well with the chorus towards the end of the song. The second video has been an even bigger hit thanks to YouTube where the video has been viewed close to 6million times (including the duplicates), and is one of the most viewed videos of all time. You have to love good publicity. The music is only available as part of the video and can't be purchased separately.

2005
A Hundred Birds - Sweet Lullaby featuring TeN
A Hundred Birds is a popular fifteen-member group led by producer/conductor Yoku. In late 2005 they released In the Sky, which included a cover version of Sweet Lullaby sung by TeN. Although TeN's voice is a little nasally on this song, the group does a good job on their interpretation adding a touch of jazz, pop and classical music to it.

Julian Dj & Davide Sonar present Andromeda - Sweet Lullaby
This underground release is a little odd. A group of Italian Djs first created a cover version of Sweet Lullaby (Original Suite Mix), but the person or persons singing the song clearly didn't know the lyrics, and had to mumble half of it. It's a little comical.

As for the four remixes, the hardstyle dance music is great and all, but sounds NOTHING like Sweet Lullaby. There's no Sweet Lullaby melody or singing, except for a 30 second interlude in each remix. The single is rare but was being sold on vinyl on the Hitland label.

2004
Deep Forest vs Axwell aka 2005 House Remix
The Axwell remix first surfaced in late 2004, but most people know of it as the 2005 House Remix. It was created by Swedish producer Axwel Hefors, and had quite a bit of success on the underground techno-dance radio stations in the first half of 2005. There's a regular version and a dub version of the remix, but because this is a white label release it isn't widely available.

2000
Komodo (save a soul)
In 2000 Mauro Picotto's Komodo was a major hit in Europe, and even had it's own music video. Although Mauro doesn't actually credit Deep Forest, he uses the Sweet Lullaby melody with English lyrics (contains the words Save a soul) instead of the original vocals. The Sweet Lullaby portion only lasts about a minute and a half, the rest of the song sounds completely different.
